As Director of the Alameda County Social Services Agency, Ms. Lori A. Cox is responsible for leading the County's largest agency with an annual budget of over $800 million and a staff of over 2,400 employees. With oversight of critical safety-net programs - Child Welfare, Adult Protection, In-Home Support Services (IHSS), CalFresh, CalWORKs, Medi-Cal eligibility, employment and other cash aid programs - Ms. Cox is among a generation of system leaders with a career that demonstrates an unwavering commitment to forging working relationships that hold residents as active partners in creating healthy, thriving communities. A dynamic leader, she has over twenty-five years of notable success working on behalf of communities, individuals, families and their children. Ms. Cox began with the Social Services Agency in 1995 as a Child Welfare Worker in the Department of Children & Family Services, eventually promoting to Division Director in 2004. She briefly served as Assistant Agency Director for the Economic Benefits Department in 2010 before being appointed Director of the Social Services Agency in 2011.
Ms. Cox holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Science Degree in Counseling Psychology from California State University, Hayward.
